The 3 Core Zones

Plants require light as physical food. The amount of light dictates how fast they drink water, how big their leaves get, and whether they can survive at all. We group every environment into three easy-to-understand zones.

No-Growth Zone

The plant is surviving, not thriving. Because there isn't enough energy to fuel photosynthesis, the plant processes water at a snail's pace. Soil stays wet for long periods, vastly increasing the risk of root rot.

Where this happens:

Dark corners, spaces far from windows, or rooms with heavy outdoor shade.

Low-Growth Zone

Meaningful but slow growth. The plant will push new leaves, but they generally won't size up. Aroids will struggle to mature or fenestrate. Dry-down takes longer, making watering less forgiving.

Where this happens:

Standard living rooms, bright offices, spaces several feet back from a good window, or the outer fringe of a small grow light.

High-Growth Zone

This is where your plant really starts to thrive. The plant has enough energy to build robust root systems and mature foliage. Water is consumed rapidly, necessitating frequent watering and nutrition.

Where this happens:

Directly against an East/West/South window, or right underneath a quality dedicated Grow Light.
